The Beginnings of a Movement: The 1968 Brookings Occupation

Led by Black students, the 1968 Brookings Hall Occupation at Washington University in Saint Louis reflects a dedicated movement that was birthed from the harms of police brutality and underrepresentation within the university. This occupation accomplished an increase of Black students, increased financial aid for Black students, and cultivated the creation of a Black studies program; this event inspires students today in what the possibilities of their organizing can pursue and achieve.
